Dr. Nowshad Amin

Researcher on Renewable Energy

Dr. Nowshad Amin is a Professor and Researcher of Renewable Energy, specifically Solar Energy. Professor Amin recently served as the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology Chittagong, Bangladesh from March to July 2023. Prior to this, he worked at the College of Engineering of Universiti Tenaga Nasional (@UNITEN, The National Energy University) of Malaysia for over 5 years. He also led the "Solar Energy Research Unit" under the Institute of Sustainable Energy) at the same university. He also worked over 11 years in the Dept. of Electrical, Electronic & Systems Engineering of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (@UKM, The National University of Malaysia), where he also led the Solar Photovoltaic Research Group under the Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI-UKM) from November 2006 till January 2018. He has also been acting as an "Honorary Professor" of the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment (FKAB) of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) since March 2021. As for the academic background, he completed his higher secondary education with distinction from his native country Bangladesh. He then received a Japanese Ministry of Education (MONBUSHO) scholarship to pursue a diploma in Electrical Engineering (1994) from Gunma National College of Technology, a bachelor’s in electrical and electronic Engineering (1996) from Toyohashi University of Technology and followed by a Master's (1998) and PhD (2001) in solar photovoltaic technology from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. His expertise includes micro and nanoelectronics, renewable energy, and solar photovoltaic (PV) energy technologies. His research also focuses on the commercialization of solar photovoltaic products from his patented entities. He was the CTO of a university spin-off company financed by the Malaysian Technology Development Center (MTDC). He has been serving as the principal investigator (PI) and Co-PI of numerous government (Malaysia) and internationally funded projects such as Qatar Foundation, NSF-USA, and NPTS-Saudi Arabia. He has authored more than 400 peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, a few books, and book chapters. He is a "Distinguished Lecturer" of the IEEE-EDS (Electron Devices Society) and a senior member of IEEE. He is actively involved in promoting renewable energy to developing countries in South and Southeast Asia and working as an enthusiastic promoter of affordable renewable energy resources.
